Taiwan unique historical background has led to the evolution of a diverse cultural climate. The development of contemporary sculpture, in particular, reflects the opportunities available to Taiwan's artists at different times during the past seventy-five years. The earliest twentieth century artists who avidly studied sculpture focussed mainly on naturalistic figurative art, reflecting tbe influences of religious sculpture and portraiture. Later generations went on to study in Europe and the United States, where they were exposed to Western art movements and aesthetic ideas.
The current generation of sculptors in Taiwan has built on the experiences of their predecessors and realized their own individual sculptural language. This exhibition brings together 17 sculptors from Taiwan, whose works reflect the progressions in this art form over three generations. (來源：展覽邀請卡)
